OK. Here I am again. Remember in the last post I had a channel for the purfling that wasn’t of an even width. So I had to sort it. I tried a couple of things. Firstly I tried to sand the channel to make it a bit wider in the key places…
I carefully marked the regions where I couldn’t squeeze the purfling into the channel, and sanded those until it fitted. This worked OK for short regions, but when there was a long stretch where the groove was too narrow I resorted to the purfling cutter. This was really me being too impatient (as usual) but actually it worked better then I expected.
You can see that the cut line isn’t quite right, but it’s not too bad! After all these set backs I’m happy to accept less than perfect! (OK, a lot less…)
So did the purfling fit in? Yes it did, quite well. These aren’t very sharp pictures, but you get the idea. (Sometimes pictures are best a bit fuzzy…)
So now I had to plane it down, and my little plane I bought at Cropredy worked a treat.
You can see in this picture that there is till a gap along side some stretches of the purfling, but hopefully I can fill that in later.
Next post fairly soon….
